Why These M&M Cookie Bars are Irresistible

It’s always super fun when M&M’s are involved!  For this recipe, we just eliminated time by not rolling the cookie dough balls for cookies and just transferred all the cookie dough in a 9×13 pan, spread it out evenly and voila!

It’s the ultimate dessert that satisfies every sweet tooth: M&M Cookie Bars. These irresistible treats are perfect for anyone with a craving for something delicious and decadent.

Made with the classic combination of chocolate and colorful M&M candies, these bars will have you coming back for more. Sink your teeth into a gooey, chocolatey center surrounded by a chewy cookie crust, and let the burst of M&M’s add a pop of color and flavor.

And…Cookie bars are special for any day of the week. No one will challenge you on this, btw, as you already know THIS.  They are perfect for snacking, birthdays, Super Bowl, party trays, holidays, bake sales and gifting to all your friends and family, duh!

Instructions How to Make M&M Cookie Bar Recipe

  1. Adjust the oven rack to lower-middle position, then preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Line a 9X13-inch baking pan with foil or parchment paper for easy removal. Spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda together in medium bowl; set aside.
  3. Whisk the melted butter and sugars together in a large mixing bowl until combined.
  4. Stir in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla and mix well.
  5. Fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture until just combined, by not overmixing.
  6. Fold in most of the M&M’s and turn the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing out the cookie dough evenly.
  7. Sprinkle remaining M&M’s on top and lightly press into dough.
  8. Bake until the top of the bars is light golden brown, slightly firm to the touch, and edges start pulling away from sides of pan, 30-35 minutes.
  9. Cool on a wire rack to room temperature.
  10. Remove the bars from the pan by removing bars from pan & transfer them to a cutting board.
  11. Cut into squares, serve.

Storing and Freezing Cookie Bars

  • Store the chewy bar cookies in an airtight container or with plastic wrap or foil at room temperature up to 3 days.
  • For long-term storage, freeze baked cookies in freezer containers or plastic bags for up to 12 months. Before serving, thaw them in the container or plastic.

More Variations

  • Switch out M&M’s for your favorite kind of M&M’s or colors according to your special event.  You’ll want to make these chewy cookie bars over and over again!  The family will love them!
  • Choose milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips as switcheroo on the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • Toss in some chopped nuts for some added nutty texture.
