What Apples Should I Use?

The key to a great apple dessert is to use a diverse variety of apples for a mix of textures and flavors: sweet, tart, crisp, and soft.  So any baking apples will work great for these apple crisp cheesecake bars!

Using apples like Granny Smith, Gala, Fuji, Honeycrisp, Pink Lady and Golden Delicious are excellent choices.

You’ll also want to slice the apples very thin, so they cook through while baking.  I love to use Granny Smith apples, because they are sweet, tart and amazing! Like in this Awesome Country Apple Fritter Bread!

  1. Hi Susie! It’s supposed to be like an apple crisp topping, not so much crumbly after it’s baked. If it turned out like cookie dough, not sure what type of flour you are using, but it sounds like a flour issue to me, the oat/flour/butter mixture should be wet and crumble-like before baking it.

  2. When I made the oat crisp crust and topping, it was never “crumbly.” It was more like cookie dough. I double checked the measurements of the flour and the butter. Any ideas what I might have done wrong?

  3. Need to clarify. The directions call for a 9″ pan. Would this be a 9″x9″ square pan?
    Thank you
