Instructions How To Make Homemade Fudgy Chocolate Walnut Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a 9-inch square baking pan lined with parchment paper for easy removal with non-stick cooking spray.  Next decide if you want stovetop or microwave method, then move on to step 4.
  2. Stovetop Method:  In a medium saucepan, melt chocolate chips and butter over low heat. Then, let it cool slightly.
  3. Microwave Method:  Melt chocolate chips and butter in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments stirring every 30 seconds until melted and let cool slightly.
  4. Add sugar and vanilla to the mixture. Once it cools down, add eggs and mix it in.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Then, add the flour mixture to the chocolate mixture and whisk or stir together until combined well.
  6. Add walnuts to the brownie batter and spread mixture evenly in your prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or has moist crumbs. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.  Depending on how fudgy you want the brownies, check at 25 minutes and go from there when you want to pull them out of the oven to cool.  Brownies will continue baking once they are pulled from the oven, so keep that in mind as to not overbake the brownies.

More Variations

  • Besides walnuts, you can substitute pecans, pistachios, peanuts or whatever nutty concoction you want to elevate your walnut brownie recipe.
  • Feel free to toast your nuts while your chocolate is cooling in the beginning steps. Just preheat the oven to 325°F.. Put the walnuts on a baking sheet, making sure they are spread out and not too close together on a baking sheet. Bake for 5-7 minutes until they are lightly toasted and slightly brown.
  • These are fudgy brownies, but if you want gooier brownies, use 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 cup granulated sugar instead of all granulated sugar.
  • Switch out the vanilla extract with chocolate extract for another chocolate twist!
  • Add ¼ to ½ cup chocolate chips for extra chocolate flavor and texture to your brownies if you want even more chocolate flavor.
  • Toss in some festive m&m’s for some candy crunch delight!
  • Warm your brownie up in the microwave and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and/or add a drizzle of caramel sauce or chocolate sauce!
