Orange Creamsicle Cake Bars Recipe

  •  oil
  • eggs
  • orange zest
  • orange juice
  • 1 box Orange Cake Mix, can also use Yellow cake mix – see Notes 

Orange Buttercream Frosting

  • unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 orange, squeezed for orange juice (4-5 tablespoons orange juice)
  • milk or cream
  • salt
  • powdered sugar
  • Orange zest from orange
  • Optional: orange food coloring for two tone frosting

How to Make Orange Creamsicle Cake Bars

Orange Creamsicle Cake Bars 

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×9 baking pan with non-stick cooking spray, set aside. (Can also line with parchment, lightly greased, if desired for easy removal of bars.)
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add oil, eggs, orange zest, orange juice and mix until fluffy.
  3. Add cake mix and mix until just combined.
  4. Scoop out dough and spread in 9×9 pan.  Cake mix batter will be sticky but spread it out the best you can.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until edges are firm but center is slightly soft.
  6. Once they cool down, frost them with orange buttercream and devour!

Orange Buttercream Frosting

  1. Using mixer, combine the unsalted butter, orange juice, milk/cream, salt and powdered sugar together on low speed working up to medium speed for about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add orange zest (optional) and continue beating frosting to get frosting consistency needed.  Add more powdered sugar if too thin, or add more juice or milk if too thick.
  3. If desired, take some of the frosting and add a drop or two of the orange food coloring and mix together.
  4. Frost the bars with the white frosting and add the orange colored frosting and swirl together to give it a creamsicle effect.  
  5. Garnish with orange slices if desired.

  • If using yellow cake mix, add the following ingredients with step 1.
    2 teaspoons Orange extract, if using yellow cake mix
    Orange gel coloring, with yellow cake mix to make bars orange colored
