Perfect Brownies {For that Chocolate 'Fix'}

  • 1 cup butter melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or use chocolate extract for extra chocolate boost
  • 3 eggs use 2 eggs for fudgier
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Optional: Add 2 more Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder for more dark chocolate flavor
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla, chocolate or coffee extract optional


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease or spray with non-stick spray a 9x9 inch square pan.
  • Whisk together the melted butter, sugar and vanilla in a large bowl, then beat in eggs one at a time, set aside. Add vanilla, chocolate or coffee extract for extra flavor boost
  • In another bowl, whisk or stir together the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Gradually blend flour into the wet mixture and stir until incorporated. Batter will be thick.
  • Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan. Don't overbake.
  • Let brownies cool, then cut into squares.


These are approx 1/3 inch thick brownies. For thicker brownies, you can use an 8 inch pan, but bake an extra 5 minutes or so.
Take it up a notch, by adding 1 cup of dark chocolate chips, and 1/2 cup walnuts. Those would be deemed Perfect Deep Dark Heavenly Brownies! :)
For more depth in chocolate add some coffee extract, coffee powder, fresh brewed coffee or coffee liquer.
