- 3 very ripe bananas
- ½ cup granulated sugar or healthy granulated sugar sweetener, like Lakanto
- ¼ cup brown sugar or healthy brown sugar sweetener, like Lakanto
- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
- ⅓ cup water
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup unsweetened baking cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Chips divided
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spray 8x8 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
In a medium size bowl, stir mashed bananas, sugars, applesauce, water, and vinegar until thoroughly combined.
Stir in flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt until just until combined.
Fold in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and pour into prepared baking pan.
Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top.
Bake for 30 - 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean.
Let cool, slice and serve.
- For even more healthier or sugar-free alternatives, use coconut sugar, stevia or lakanto replacements in place of sugar. Same with the chocolate chips, replace with sugar-free chips.
- Gluten Free Flour can be substituted for allergy friendly too.
- Use dairy free chocolate chips for Vegan option.
- Double the recipe, use a 9x13 pan! (You really should!!!)
