Gooey Apple Jack Cereal Bars

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons salted butter add 1/4 teaspoon salt if using unsalted
  • 10.5 oz mini marshmallows fresh works best
  • 5 cups Apple Jacks cereal

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat.
  • Stir in Apple Jacks cereal until evenly coated.
  • Press mixture into a greased or parchment-lined 8-inch pan. Use a buttered spatula or wax paper to press evenly. Let cool.
  • Cut into 8 bars and serve.
  • Microwave method: Place butter and marshmallows in a large microwave-safe bowl. Heat on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Mix in cereal, press into the pan, and let cool before cutting.

Notes

  • Use fresh marshmallows for the softest, gooey texture.
  • Melt marshmallows slowly over low heat to prevent bars from becoming hard.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days.
  • To freeze, layer with wax paper in a container and freeze up to 6 weeks. Thaw 15 minutes at room temperature before serving.
