Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Fine grater or microplane (for lemon zest)
  • 4 mason jars or airtight containers

Ingredients

Blueberry Swirl

Oat Base

Fresh Berry Topping

  • ½ cup fresh blueberries
  • ½ cup fresh raspberries

Instructions

Make the Blueberry Swirl

  • Add 1 1/2 cups blueberries, 1 to 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1 teaspoon lemon zest, 1 tablespoon water, and a pinch of salt to a small saucepan.
  • Simmer over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries break down and the mixture is thick and jammy.
  • Let the swirl cool completely before layering. (Or skip this step and use store-bought blueberry jam or mashed thawed blueberries.)

Mix the Oat Base

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups milk, 1 cup Greek yogurt or blended cottage cheese, 4 scoops protein powder, 2 tablespoons chia seeds, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, optional cinnamon, and optional maple syrup until smooth and no protein powder clumps remain.
  • Stir in 2 cups rolled oats until fully combined.

Assemble the Jars

  • Divide half the oat mixture between 4 jars or airtight containers.
  • Add a spoonful of cooled blueberry swirl to each jar.
  • Top with the rest of the oats, then finish with another spoonful of swirl on top.

Chill

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best texture.

Top and Serve

  • Right before serving, top each jar with fresh blueberries and raspberries. (Tuck a few berries inside the jar for fun berry pockets if you like.)
  • If the oats are too thick, stir in a splash of milk to loosen them up.

Notes

Storage: Keep oats in sealed jars in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. Add fresh berries right before eating so they stay vibrant.
Make Ahead: The blueberry swirl can be made up to 1 week ahead and stored in the fridge separately for faster assembly.
Tip: Use rolled oats only. Quick oats turn mushy and steel-cut won't soften enough overnight.
Tip: Whisk the wet ingredients really well before adding the oats. Protein powder loves to clump if you rush it.
Protein Powder: Vanilla protein powder is the most versatile and lets the blueberry flavor shine. Peanut butter protein powder is great for a PB&J vibe.
No Protein Powder Option: Skip the protein powder and add an extra 1/4 cup oats and 1/4 cup more Greek yogurt. Protein drops to around 18g per jar.
Frozen Blueberries: Work great for the swirl and don't need to be thawed. They actually break down faster than fresh.
