Ingredients

Crumble Topping

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 4-5 Tablespoons unsalted butter slightly melted
  • ¼ teaspoon salt omit if using salted butter
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Additions: chopped pecans, walnuts and/or oats 1/2 cup to 1 cup

Instructions

Crumble Topping

  • Melt butter, set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugars and cinnamon.
  • Slowly pour the melted butter in as you stir the mixture with a fork. Start with 3-4 Tablespoons and add more until it looks like crumbles, without mixing too much, as overworking it will make it like a dough. Add in chopped pecans, walnuts or oats for a bit of crunchiness if desired (1/2 cup to 1 cup of each or a combination)
  • Evenly spread the crumble mixture over the pie filling, cake or muffins.
  • Bake in the oven according to the recipe you are using.
  • This recipe typically makes enough crumble topping to cover the surface of one standard 9-inch pie, cake or 12 muffins generously. Feel free to adjust the quantities based on your needs.

Notes

Additions:
  • Add 1 cup roughly chopped roasted pecans or walnuts to your crumble.
  • Add 1/2 cup oats to your crumble
Cover leftovers tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.
