Best Cookie Dough Frosting

Best Cookie Dough Frosting is a dreamy chocolate chip frosting highlighting butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract & mini chocolate chips!

Ingredients

Cookie Dough Frosting

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup + 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cups all purpose flour heat-treated & cooled*
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk of choice or heavy cream
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Pretreat flour in microwave or oven - See notes how.
  • Using a mixer, beat butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and salt until smooth and combined.
  • Add vanilla and beat until combined, followed by flour.
  • Add the milk/cream, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach a thick but spreadable consistency.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Add to your favorite brownies, cookies or cakes!

Notes

Pretreating Flour

  • Microwave Method: First start by treating your flour. Spread the flour on a large plate or baking dish to fit in your microwave. Microwave for about 1 minute, adding additional 15 second increments as needed, until the flour reaches a temperature of 160 F. (90 seconds works perfectly for me)
  • Oven Method: Heat treat the flour by spreading it out on a baking sheet and baking it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.
    Whisk the flour to break up the flour chunks and let it cool down before using to make cookie dough frosting recipe.

Frosting

  • Frosts an 8x8 or 9x9 pan of brownies, double recipe for 9x13 pan.
  • Frosts 6 cupcakes, adjust settings for how many cupcakes you want to frost for.
To Make Vegan - Simply substitute vegan butter, non-dairy milk and vegan chocolate chips!  Easy & delish!
