Chocolate Drizzle

  1. Melt chocolate in 30 second increments until melted, about a minute or so and pour into a ziplock bag. Snip a corner of the bag and drizzle chocolate using like a pastry bag, on top of the rice krispie treats. Chocolate will be hot, so be careful.
  2. You can also pour the melted chocolate on top of the cereal and use a spatula to spread it into an even layer if you wish, but increase the chocolate chips to 1 cup for a nice layer.
  3. Place the pan in the refrigerator until the chocolate is set, about 1 hour.
  4. Once set, remove the treats from the pan and cut them into individual squares. Store in an airtight container.

Storing Rice Krispie Treats

Not only are they fast and easy to make, they can also be made ahead of time and stored for up to three days.

Tips & Options

  • If you want a more defined peanut butter layer, you can pop the Reese cups into the freeze for 20-30 minutes so they don’t melt into the warm prepared rice krispies.
  • Mini Reese Cups could be used for another option if you don’t have the large Reese cups.

  1. I’ve never used soybutter, I would give it a try? It sounds perfect! Sunbutter is another option if you’re looking for a peanut butter substitute. You can find it on online or in the allergy/organic section…or probably with the peanut butters. Let us know how it works out! I’m excited to hear!

  2. I just wondered if you might have a “peanut butter free” option. I have a son with a Severe Anaphylactic Peanut and Tree Nut allergy. I have a product made out of soybutter that takes almost exactly like peanut butter. I’m just wondering if you have any ideas how I could incorporate the soybutter into your recipe for the Ultimate Chocolatey Peanut Butter Cup Krispie Treats???

  3. Oh my goodness, Kim! If I were a kid, I feel like I could just skip trick-or-treating for a batch of these lovely treats! I’m thinking I might just have to make a double batch and keep one for myself. So so much yummmmmm!

  4. I don’t mind Reese’s, but they have a very simple flavour and texture profile (Too sweet and too smooth to my liking). I think incorporating them in another treat, along with melted marshmallow and rice puffs, does make a trick – it looks and sounds absolutely delicious!

  5. These look dangerously good! I think I could eat a whole batch on my own!

  6. My jaw dropped when I saw this. Don’t tell my kids, but this is the one candy I sometimes sneak out of their Halloween loot. (Okay, also M&M’s and maybe every year is more honest than “sometimes.”) This dessert is over the top and I must make it. And with GF rice cereal, it’s gluten-free so my GF son can partake. Love!!! 🙂 ~Valentina
