Do You Know How Red Velvet Cake Came About?

Well, here’s the scoop!  During the food rationing of World War II, bakers would use beets to enhance the color of their cakes. Weird, but true and it worked!  And did you know ‘Chocolate’ is one of the main ingredients in red velvet desserts?  Yum!!!

Red velvet cake or cookies are usually made with a combination of ingredients like all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, buttermilk, milk, vinegar, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, salt, red food coloring and sometimes beets!

However, we’re making these cookies simple to make, using a red velvet cake mix.  It’s a great red velvet cookie recipe when you want something fast, tastes delish and holiday-ish!  Let’s not just make cookies, but some fun Santa cookies!

  1. A really great idea for “cookie party” give-away. Add sprinkles or other novelty decorations.
