About Coconut Flour

We used coconut flour instead of almond flour or gluten-free flour and these brownies turned out super amazing!

Coconut flour addresses grain allergies, which is an alternative to wheat flours and is free from preservatives, gluten, genetically engineered (Non-GMO), and is 100% organic.

Coconut flour is tricky to work with because it is not a grain-based flour. It’s not an easy substitute, but these brownies prove that you can use coconut flour in them to get the results you would expect in a rich, moist chocolate brownie that you would expect!

These Coconut Flour Brownies Have Intense Chocolate Flavor!

*sigh…*  I could eat brownies every day for the rest of my life!  Back in the day, I did eat them pretty much every day for many, many years, (guilty as charged) so, trust me when I say, I am very familiar with tons of brownie versions!  But I love these are healthy in the sense of gluten free living!

One requirement for brownies though: Brownies must have intense chocolate flavor for the ultimate chocolate experience, don’t ya think?  These pass the test with flying colors!

These brownies consist of just a few ingredients: butter, sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, eggs, and coconut flour. They bake up beautifully and when you cut the brownies, they look all nice and neat. They don’t fall apart like some brownies do, even when still warm.

How To Make Purely Amazing GF Ultra Chocolatey Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking oil spray. Line with parchment paper (or baking paper); set aside.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the melted butter, cocoa powder and sugar for about a minute.
  4. Add the eggs and extract using a wooden spoon or spatula.
  5. Add in flour and salt and mix into the wet ingredients until combined. (DO NOT over-beat as it could affect the texture of your brownies).
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan, smoothing the top out evenly.
  7. Top with chocolate chips, or other add-ins if you wish.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the center of the brownies in the pan no longer jiggles and is just set to the touch. NOTE: The brownies will keep baking in the hot pan out of the oven so you don’t want to over-bake.
  9. If testing with a toothpick, the toothpick should come out dirty for fudge-textured brownies. Remove and allow to cool to room temperature.
  10. Makes 9-16 brownies depending how you big you cut them.
  11. Suggestion: Bigger slices for cake-like brownies for ice cream scoops on top with hot fudge or just a decent sized brownie and smaller slices for fudgier brownies, because they’re richer and gooier

Choose: Fudgy or Cake-Like Coconut Flour Chocolate Brownies!

Ok, this is a coconut flour brownie recipe, but did you know you can have them fudgy or cake-like?

If you add an extra egg to your brownies, you’ll get more of a cake-like brownie, rather than a dense, chewy brownie. The extra egg adds volume and creates a soft, light texture.  By using less eggs you get more fudgy brownies.

  • Only use 2 eggs for Fudgy Brownies
  • Use 3 eggs for Cake-Like Brownies

  1. Very nice. This recipe made 4 brownies by my standard… kids agree. They lasted 3 minutes (had to give time to cool).

  2. This recipe is delicious! I used cacao powder and accidentally 30g instead of the 20g needed for the recipe, but it didn’t throw off the flavor. The only recommendation I have is that the chocolate chips are mixed in instead of simply sprinkled on top (as I find them necessary for the cakey version to give more moisture). Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe!

  3. Agree, no one ever knows they are gluten-free, like that’s a bad thing? I love your idea of the ice cream scoop on top! Thank you so much! xo

  4. Are there people who can resist brownies? No, seriously. I think it’s a universally adored treat. I make mine gluten free and serve with a scoop of dairy free ice cream for dessert. Many people think it’s impossible to make a delicious brownie using gluten free flour. But it turns out sooo rich and super fudgy. What more could I want in life? I even brought them to picnics and summer parties. Nobody even guessed they were gluten free, and almost everybody requested the recipe of it. I always take it as a good sign. Btw, I often refrigerate them, and they are still so good cold. Thank you for this treasure Kim! Your site is wonderful.

  5. i love these kind of recipes because its easy for me to make and my kids actually loved it every time. i wonder if i can subsitute some of the ingredients because mostly i can’t find them at the grocery stores. thanks 🙂

  6. Kim, I want to jump right into your world of brownie happiness! I’m so drooling over my keyboard right now! I haven’t had much luck with gluten free flour yet so I definitely need to find some Purely Amazing – the texture on these brownies really is Purely Amazing!

  7. Hi Beth! I just talked to Ambra, who created the flour and she will be updating it. But, it is confirmed it is a blend of coconut flour, tapioca flour, arrowroot, amaranth and Gar Gum. We are still a work in progress, but I couldn’t wait to post and talk about it. I’ve been playing with this flour for about 2 months now and in a few days, we hope to have everything updated on her site. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask and thank you!

  8. According to the recipe it says that Purely Amazing is a coconut flour blend but looking at the ingredients on the companies website there is no coconut flour. Is there a different blend?
