How to make Cookies Taste like Fudgy Brownies

  • You don’t want to under-bake or over-bake too much.
  • If baked under-done, they will be too fudgy and won’t hold together.
  • If over-baked, you will get something like brownie brittle OR bordering there, I’m guessing.
  • The mini chocolate chips gives these a fudgy vibe for sure!

White Chocolate Peppermint M&M Cookie Recipe

You can make these Christmas brownie cookies jumbo-sized or smaller.  I love the jumbo ones!  Go figure, but for parties and gift-giving, you might opt to go for the regular cookie size.

This recipe only requires about 15 minutes to prepare, 15 minutes to bake!  Let’s get to baking!!

How to Make White Chocolate Peppermint M&M Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees (F). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter for 15 second intervals until just melted, whisking in between each increment, until butter and chocolate are melted and mixture is smooth (like ganache). Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt and set aside.
  4. In another bowl whisk together the eggs, sugars, cream or milk and vanilla. Add in chocolate mixture and whisk together well.
  5. Start adding in the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, and stir until combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and 1 cup of m&m’s into the batter, stirring until everything is just combined. Let dough sit for 5 minutes before scooping.
  7. Using a ¼ cookie or ice cream scoop, Scoop up 6 cookies onto each of the baking sheets or use small scoop and place 12 on baking sheets. Add M&M’S and peppermint chunks to the tops of the cookies, pressing down slightly.
  8. Bake for 15 -17 minutes for larger cookies and 12- 14 minutes for smaller cookies.
  9. Makes 12 Mega Cookies and 24 – 32 small.
  10. Let cookies cool before transferring to baking rack or counter.
  11. Enjoy!

Storage & Tips

  1. Seal cookies after they have cooled.
  2. Freeze up to 3 months or will keep up to 5 days.
  3. For thicker cookies, you can refrigerate for 10-15 minutes, but you will have to add a minute or two on to the baking time.
  4. You can also add the peppermint to the top right after they come out of the oven if you don’t want browning on your white chocolate.  Works great!
  5. For more extra peppermint flavor, add ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract.

  1. Hannah, thank you so much for leaving such a nice review! I’m so happy to hear you make this dough a lot for the different seasons! When you find a good cookie dough, you can definitely change them out with chocolate chips and M&M’s. Happy Holidays!

  2. I’ve been using this recipe for a few years now, and just realized that I’ve never left a review! I make the recipe exactly as written (no peppermint extract) for Christmas and it comes out great every time. The dough gets pretty sticky and messy when measuring out and dropping onto sheets, but I think that’s just the price you pay for good, fudgey cookies. You definitely don’t want to overbake these..I tend to pull them out a minute or two early just to make sure they’re not overdone. I love making oversized cookies, so 1/4 c of dough per cookie is perfect.

I’ve also used this recipe as my go-to throughout the year for chocolate cookies with different mix-ins. For Halloween, I use Halloween M&Ms (green, orange and purple) with white chocolate chips (instead of the peppermint chunks) and they look (and taste) awesome.

  3. Thought I’d leave a review since there were none yet. I was looking for a recipe to use my ghiradelli peppermint chunks and so glad I came across this one. I don’t have a microwave so I did a makeshift double boiler to melt the chocolate so it probably took me a little longer than most, but these were still so easy and tasty. Very fudgy and dense! I baked 7 types of cookies this past Christmas and these are being added to next year’s list already. Next year I plan on using peppermint extract and mint M&Ms since the chunks didn’t give a ton of mint flavor, but I could also see using these as a basic non peppermint cookie year round with white chocolate chips.

  4. Hi Amy! Yes, if you don’t have m&m’s you can use any add-ins you want to, so I would just use the same amounts or close to that and use what you like. I like adding some peppermints on top after they are done baking as well as some chocolate chips/m&ms to give them a decorative touch. Hope you enjoy!

  5. I found a bag of the ghirardelli peppermints a few days ago! The cookies look so yummy but I don’t have any M&Ms. Should I just add milk chocolate chips or just increase the amount of mini chips and peppermint candies?

  6. Hi Lisa, no I didn’t but you can use them for sure! I wouldn’t put peppermint extract in the cookies if you do, if you were planning on that though. I think that sounds wonderful though! 🙂

  7. I never knew Ghirardelli made peppermint chunks. I’m totally gonna look for it next time i visit the store. This cookie is fudgy, brownie like and I love how deep, dark it is. The m&ms and peppermint chunks are the cherry on top. YUM Kim!!!

  8. I am going to give the same shocked expressions as Kelsie! White chocolate peppermint chunks are an amazing addition to these already Christmasy cookies! The Red and green M&M’s and the peppermint chunks make this such a festive cookie for this time of the year!

  9. Yes they are a real thing!! 🙂 Come on over! I stashed these in the freezer for later! I’m sure you could get them on Amazon though Kelsie!

  10. Ghirardelli peppermint chunks? WHERE HAVE THESE BEEN ALL MY LIFE? If my local grocery store doesn’t carry them, which I will be checking first thing tomorrow, I will be coming for a visit so have a few of these cookies ready 🙂
